Now that we know what new features are coming in the Touch, here’s the things I would like to have seen.

I wish it would have actually been bigger or at least stay the same size. I don’t see a need to keep making it smaller and thinner.

I would like to have seen a 128GB model. Considering the Touch is becoming, and for many already is, a mobile gaming platform it needs more storage space to accommodate the massive amount of games out there. There are so many great games that 64GB just isn’t going to be enough. At 128GB you can have plenty of space for music (20GB in my case), an entire season of TV shows at the ready (such as Burn Notice and True Blood) and 64GB+ available for games.

A bigger battery. This is why I want the device to be bigger. I’m using the device all the time and the battery just isn’t lasting long enough. I should be able to get several hours of game play and be able to watch a couple of TV episodes before I have to recharge. We aren’t quite there yet.

Those are my three big changes. And the device being bigger so it can accommodate a bigger battery goes together, so really two changes. I think those upgrades would have been pretty significant.

Regardless of whether people think this is a direct copy of Fruit Ninja or not, the game is a hell of a lot of fun to play. I have both and enjoy each of them for their unique gameplay. On it’s own merits it has great graphics, excellent gameplay, fun sounds when cutting veggies and multiple game modes. To dislike a game because it’s a copy of another game is just plain stupid. So we can’t have Diablo clones, or Quake clones or Poker clones?

It’s an excellent game for $0.99 but for free it’s amazing! Jump to it and grab a copy!

Overall the event was pretty interesting. The iPods were interesting. The Touch gets a camera and the retina display as I’m sure everyone was expecting. Nothing too exciting with all those – as far as an upgrade goes. If you don’t have a Touch that would definitely be a great buy.

iTunes 10 looks pretty interesting. The Ping option seems neat for those that plan to use it. I don’t use iTunes that way so not much for me there. The Apple TV looked pretty cool, and when you combine iTunes with Netflix, that is a whole lot of entertainment. That could be a pretty cool combination. Interesting that only Fox and ABC chose to sign up. On the surface it looks pretty interesting, will definitely have to get more details on how all of that is going to work. Content producers really need to get on board something like the Apple TV if they want to get more content into the hands of paying customers and move away from everyone downloading shows through torrents.

But anyway, pretty predictable stuff. Each one gets a few niceties so that’s not too bad. No new upgrades for me, but I like the new devices. I will have to check out the Apple TV, a combination of iTunes with Netflix could be a lot of really good programming.

It’ll be interesting to see what kind of changes the iPod Touch will get for its next iteration. A camera being added is mildly interesting but not really worth an upgrade. Will it get the retina display of the iPhone 4? Again, not a bad thing, but is it upgrade worthy? I have the 32GB 3rd generation and don’t see either of those being enough to make me get another. I’m wondering what else might be in store as an upgrade.

However, once the new Touch 4 comes out, I’m seriously considering getting another iPod Touch, but a 64GB model. I think the price is going to drop nicely and it would be a good time to grab another one. One would be nothing but games. The other would be nothing but music. Perhaps that’s overkill, I’m not sure.

I’m still waiting for my chance to strike on an iPad. The long shipping times and complete lack of availability seems to be at an end. I’d really like to have one before Thanksgiving and all the holiday time away from work.

But before I make any decisions, let’s see what this Apple event has in store for us.

I was reading this MaxiumPC article yesterday 5 Freeware Apps for Searching Thy Desktop Awesomely and thought I would try a few of them out. I’m trying to get a handle on the files of my work machine. I’ve got crap everywhere and I can’t find anything. I should have bought another license for Copernic Desktop Search, but I think I may have found some pretty good substitutes.

First up is Index Your Files. This app builds an index then searches for any and all files that match your criteria. It’s somewhat similar to Copernic but it doesn’t look inside the files, it just makes a note of the filename. And that’s actually pretty cool. Type in any part of a filename and Index Your Files will show you every file on every drive that matches.

And the index is very quick too. It takes about 1 minute to process 100,000 files. Just for fun, I tried it out at home across multiple terabytes and it took 8 minutes to catalog all my drives. But now I have an index of every single file on my machine. It doesn’t care what the file type, it just makes a list. This is extremely cool for locating that "sales" doc or that application receipt. It’s very neat and it’s free.

To get some Copernic like features you can install DocFetcher. It actually indexes the content of your files such as .doc, .xls, .txt, .pdf so you can search for keywords. This is much slower on first run to build that index, but it’s very useful for finding files based on their contents. I gave it a test run on my work machine and was able to dig up plenty of files based on my searches. It only works with certain files types (although the most popular are represented) and it won’t look in emails, but for the price tag of free you really can’t complain.

Copernic Desktop Search Professional is my choice for home use because of the interface, the way it separates groups of files, and it’s integration. However, with these two apps, I’ve gotten pretty darn close to that some functionality at work. And considering the pricing, these are great choices!

Need to get a handle on searching for your files? Check out some of these other apps.

Check out some of these figures in regards to how much Microsoft is probably spending on the launch of Windows Phone 7.

Microsoft easily spent over a billion dollars over three years to develop and launch the now-defunct Kin phones.

I’d say it’s safe to say we’re easily at or over $1 billion at this point. Microsoft made $62.5 billion in fiscal 2010. One of the company’s biggest black eyes at this point is its lack of a credible and coherent answer to the iPhone and Android. A billion dollars would be a small price to pay to achieve this.

This does take into account salaries and other things, but that is still money being spent on this project. And the part that kills me is this after they spend a billion on the Kin which was a complete flop. Sure, MS made $60 billion but a billion dollars is still a lot of money to throw at a failed project. Plus, this is a billion for this year, the phone isn’t even out yet. They have a TON of phones to sell to make up for that investment.

And the problem is, the iPhone 4 is out, a new Touch is coming out (for games and Wifi/Skype), multiple revs of the Droid are out. These people have made an investment in hardware and data plans. Microsoft is pretty bold in thinking that these people will just toss them aside and jump to their new phone.

And let’s not forget, Microsoft is spending a billion in the Xbox arena with Natal, and even more billions trying to catch up on search. I’m tellin’ ya, these billions are starting to add up. Are they making enough headway to justify this kind of spending?

Has yet another billion been spent on making a tablet? I wouldn’t be surprised when all is said and done.

A billion to launch Windows Phone 7? I bet Microsoft is paying a lot more

With three new revisions out there, will people finally kill off IE6? YouTube is dropping support, and now Facebook claims it will drop IE6 support when the IE9 beta hits (September 15). Really, what is it going to take to make IE6 go away? What reason can people possibly have for still using this browser? You really have to be going out of your way not to upgrade. I guess if your holding onto Windows 98 or Windows 2000 then you can’t upgrade. But my word, what utter piece of crap machine you must have if your still trucking along with Win98 and liking it!

And if you’re a company who claims they can’t upgrade because of legacy applications that depend on IE6, then we shouldn’t be doing business with you. That is a tragic excuse. IE6 is tragically slow and feature deficient compared to browsers today. To say you’re dependent on IE6 to carry out business function makes me question who you are and what you do. I’m sure my data and property is perfectly safe with you…

Are you sure you’re Y2K compliant?

I took my cleaning efforts over to my laptop last night and ran Internet Privacy Pro which cleans out the temp folder, Internet cache and all that other junk you don’t need lying around. Well, as you can see, things got a little out of hand. Not only were there 66,000 useless files lurking on my machine, it was taking up nearly a gig of hard drive space. That is a huge amount of junk!

I clear the temp folders, cache and cookies off my work machine every day, and clearly I need to start doing that with my personal machines. Who knows what kind of rubbish I have hiding in the corners of those folders.

As an aside, if you want to get your own copy of Internet Privacy Pro (I used quite a few of these apps and this seems to really clean out a lot) click here and use the coupon code: NEW25 to save 25% off your purchase.

As a free choice, give CCleaner a try.
