Apple will charge for the iOS4 update for the iPad?

I’m reading rumors that Apple is going to charge for the next update to the iPad. Wow, that’s going to piss some people off. I remember when I got my 2nd Gen iPod Touch and that same week iOS3 came out and Apple wanted to charge me $10 for it. I was furious. I actually held off and then had to send that Touch in to be repaired and ended up getting the 32GB 3rd Gen model because BestBuy messed everything up so badly. I would have been even more pissed off had I just thrown that $10 away.

Now, $5 really isn’t all that much to upgrade an OS, but everyone else got it for free, so it seems wrong to charge the iPad folks

If this does turn out to be real, I sense a backlash coming.

Hot Apple fanboy love

The big day of Apple fanboy love is here. Don got his new iPhone4 and Theo got his new iPad right off the Fedex truck. Of course I’m jealous of the iPad and long for the day when I get mine.

We didn’t get to spend too much time with the iPhone (work always gets in the way of having a good time) but from what I did see it was quite cool. I’m not sure it really needed to be thinner but the display is very bright and readable and the new camera features are pretty kickass. It certainly looked faster when launching apps and the quick demo of the front facing camera was pretty neat.

I have none of the previous iPhone models so I’m not getting this one either but there was much swooning over it by others in the building. I like the feature set though. I also wonder how many if these new features, if any, will make it into the next rev of the Touch or iPad.

Apple overtakes Microsoft to become the world’s most valuable tech firm

It almost makes you stop and think that Microsoft isn’t nearly as relevant as they think they are. And to think, a decade ago Microsoft handed over a couple hundred million to Apple to keep them going amidst all the anti-trust and monopoly suits MS had against them. Back then, many people, including myself thought Apple was on the way out. My how times have changed!

As it stands right now Apple is valued at nearly $227 billion compared to Microsoft’s $223 billion.
In the past five years alone Apple’s stock has risen nearly 560% whilst Microsoft’s has risen a mere 4%.
